Shipton Mill Organic Wholemeal Spelt Flour, now available at Ratton Pantry and forming part of a larger selection of Shipton Mill’s incredible artisan flours.
Spelt is an ancient grain, closely related to Emmer, which was cultivated by earlier civilizations such as Mesopotamia in the Middle East around 9000 years ago. In Britain it is first known to have existed as a main crop in 2000 BCE.
A very versatile flour, Organic Wholemeal Spelt Flour can be used to make an array of different bakes including soda bread. This Spelt flour retains more of the grain and is therefore ‘heavier’ and darker in colour than Shipton Mill’s Organic White Spelt Flour. Try blending it with other white flour to lighten, if required.
